Frequently Asked QuestionsSafetyFirstForKids

What will you cover in your course?

The core topics covered by the SafetyFirstForKids First Aid Course are: CPR, Choking, Drowning, Burns, Poisoning & Care of the Sick Child. Additional elective topics can also be selected, covering areas such as  fits, fevers, allergies, asthma, bleeding, SIDS, lumps, bumps and bruises and meningitis. Please see Course Outline for more detail.

How long does the course run for ?

The full First Aid course is designed to run for about 3 hours. Depending on factors such as the number of people in attendance which topics have been selected and obviously how much discussion takes place, it may end up taking slightly less time and occasionally a little more. As a rule of thumb, set aside at least 2.5 hours.

Can I bring my children along?

Babies under 12 months are very welcome to attend. We try to discourage bringing kids any older than this as you are likely to be distracted and may not get the full benefit of the course.

How much does it cost?

The standard First Aid Course costs $90 per person, based on a minimum group of 5 people. This includes everything you will need during the course. The First Aid Refresher Course costs $40. All prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD).

What if I have a smaller group?

We are happy to accommodate smaller groups for a slightly higher fee. Please call us to discuss what works best for you.

Is there a maximum group size?

The maximum group size will be between 10  and 15 depending on the electives chosen. We will always keep group sizes as small as needed to ensure adequate time for everyone to participate in the hands-on practicals.

Which geographical location do you serve?

We cover the Sydney Metropolitan area.

I have decided to attend a First Aid course. Why should I choose safetyfirstforkids?

Drawing from my vast array of emergency experience, both in the community and in the hospital environment; I have designed a course that is highly relevant to you, as a parent or caregiver, and telling you exactly what you need to know to cope in a crisis.  I also believe that your First Aid confidence will reach its full potential only when you have gone through the motions for yourself. For this reason, the course places the emphasis on hands-on learning where applicable, using realistic mannequins from industry-leading Laerdal. If you are a parent or caregiver, this course will empower you to act in an emergency situation.

Where can I find out what others who have attended the course thought about it?

Please take a look at our testimonials page.

What do I need to bring to the course?

Just yourself, a willingness to participate and a sense of humour.

Is your course accredited?

No. This course is not for health professionals or someone who needs to tick a box at work. This is for people who want to have practical skills in how to help save the life of a child.

Will I be assessed?

No, there will be no formal assessment. There will, however, be a short quiz at the end of the course, which we hope will clarify your understanding, reinforce some of the topics and techniques you learned, and give you the self-belief to use them when needed. Rather than worrying about exams, we want you to leave the course feeling both competent and confident.

My mother’s group really like the flexibility of the electives. However, what if we would also like to change from the recommended core topics?

Our flexible approach applies to the core topics too. Our recommendations are what we believe will benefit the majority of people but we fully understand these may not be the optimal choice for you

Please contact me to discuss any changes you would like to make regarding the selection of core topics.

What should I wear?

No special clothing is required. Just wear something comfortable that will allow you to participate in the hands-on practicals.

Do I need to bring anything along?

No. Everything will be provided at the course.

Will there be a coffee break?

We have a lot to cover in 3 hours. However, there will be a short break – about 10 minutes – when we reach the halfway point.

What is your refund policy?

In general, we will not issue a refund where courses do not proceed on the agreed scheduled date. However, we do want you attend your First Aid course and, provided you can give us at least 14 days notice, we will make every effort to re-schedule it to a mutually convenient future date. Please contact me to discuss your options should this situation arise. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.

Do you operate in any other countries ?

No, we are an Australian business and currently only operate in the Sydney area.
